Technical Difficulties

Injuries to father and dog have scrambled my week. I am off to Boise tomorrow and trying to get the latest Celebrate Oregon Beer newsletter out the door before then. (We have an exclusive article on Portland’s newest brewery, Tiny Giants, you’ll only find there: subscribe now to catch it!)

Meanwhile, I’ll leave you with reading material elsewhere in my stead:

  • BrewDog’s presence continues to recede in the U.S., and the Scottish Stone just shuttered their Cincinnati taproom.

  • Specially-formulated airplane beer? This phrase gives me pause, but I’m keeping an open mind about the concept: “by using a combination of science and traditional brewing methods…”

  • Remember when we used to revere European beer? Franz Hofer, who spends a good chunk of every year in Austria, has some suggestions.

  • Things I learned from Oregonian restaurant critic Michael Russell: (1) if you have to eat Texas barbecue outside of Texas, Portland ain’t a bad place to be, and (2) the as yet little-noticed barbecue truck outside Von Ebert is “rapidly climbing the Portland barbecue rankings.”

Finally, and speaking of newsletters, Stan Hieronymus’s latest “Hop Queries” just hit my inbox. If you want to read it immediately upon publication, you’re going to have to subscribe, as well. Eventually it will pass into the archives, where I can link it, but that’s eventually. You should be getting these fresh.
