Beervana Pod Now “Award-Winning”

Well, sort of.

Portland’s local alt-weekly newspaper, Willamette Week, holds an annual “best of Portland” survey. Readers are asked to cite everything from the best karaoke to best auto dealership. (Seriously: Subaru of Portland was this year’s big winner.) Among these bests is a category for podcast. The Beervana Show, with absolutely no help from its hosts (and by that I mean Patrick, whom I blame entirely for this failure), finished second. Second!

The competition was stiff.* Three of the four pods appear to be about sex: Assville, All Fantasy Everything, and They Talk Sex. We were slotted into the booze category, and then Maintenance Phase, apparently about wellness (?), rounded out the lot. We beat all but one sex show—impressive!

Who knows what might have happened had we activated our enormous listenership to flood the zone? Perhaps I’d be writing about the best podcast in Portland. Ah well, there’s nothing shameful about the runner-up, and it gives us something to shoot for in ‘23.

In case you’re not listening to the podcast, which is also broadcast Thursdays at 1pm on XRAY fm, please tune in. It is a wealth of information about beer and the business of beer, hosted by my friend Patrick Emerson, professor of economics at OSU, and me, a local blogger. The audio is sometimes “DIY,” but as we say, you get what you pay for. The Beervana Show on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher.

Thanks to everyone who voted!
