Data Point: Biggest Breweries

Just a note as we near the end of the year. This summer, the German hop supplier Barth Haas released a very interesting report the international beer industry. They detail not just what’s happening in hops—though there’s plenty of that—but the industry more broadly. One table that really caught my attention was the listing of the forty largest beer companies in the world. (We can hardly call them “breweries.”) Those forty control 85% of the world’s beer production. More remarkably, the top ten produce two-thirds of all the world’s beer. You can zip over to the full report here, and it’s worth a gander. And as a final note, I converted the volume from hectoliters to US beer barrels for the largely American audience here.
